Asian Community Center 21 (ACC21) has collaborated with students studying in Japan who are from Asian countries to volunteer in Tohoku in order to create a form of support linking the victims with Asian peoples.

We are currently operating under the following schedule.
(Again, schedule may change according to regional needs.)
Day of Departure:
   20:00  Meet at ACC21 (in the Lobby of ABK Bldg.)
             After orientation, go to bus terminal
   21:40  Leave Tokyo by night bus
            
Activity Day (first day):
    6:00  Arrive in Miyagi or Iwate prefecture, go to site
    7:00  Reception at the volunteer center
    8:00-15:00   volunteer activities

Activity Day (last day):
    8:00-15:00   volunteer activities
   20:00  Leave the site, have a dinner
   22:00  Leave for Tokyo by night bus

Day of Arrival:
   6:00  Arrive in Tokyo

¥3,000 (three thousand yen) per person. Please pay in cash on the day of departure.
ACC21 will cover all the expenses such as
round trip transportation, local transportation, lodging, belongings needed for activities, basic volunteer insurance

*Notice regarding meals.
Starting from September, participants will be responsible for paying for their own meals separately. Please take note.

Our activities will be decided after consulting with leaders at the site.
For example,
removing sludge from homes, cleaning up objects that have drifted onto the shoreline or onto hillsides,
and cleaning and returning pictures and other mementos

(Based on regional needs, location of our volunteer activity will be decided after consultation with local leaders where we volunteer.)

◆Language
ACC21 staff member who speaks both English and Japanese will accompany you during the volunteer trip. Therefore, even if you cannot speak Japanese well, it is not a big problem as far as you can communicate in English.

◆Basic Volunteer Insurance
ACC21 will buy the required volunteer insurance for all participants.

◆Consent Form or Parental/Guardian Consent Form
ACC21 will require all the participants to fill out the "Volunteer Consent Form" in advance to accomplish this program successfully. If you are under 20 years old, we will also require the written consent of a parent or guardian.

◆With your consent, we may introduce you and your volunteer efforts on our homepage.

◆This program is planned particularly for Asian students who want to be a bridge between their country and Japan. The participation fee was set low on that basis. Therefore, please understand that we cannot accept any volunteer who are not Asian students.

◆We are putting the latest information on our facebook page.

◆We will ask you to submit a short report after the program.

All you need to bring are daily clothes including long sleeves,
a pen, personal hygiene items, towels, and a small bag to bring things
for a day activity (waist pouch, daypack etc.)
You don't need to bring special gears for activities such as long
boots, masks, helmets and goggle. We will lend  them to you at the site. Also sleeping bags are not necessary.

It may be hot during the day, but will be cool or chilly at night. Also it may rain or storm. Rain boots and raincoats are available on site.
